Missing woman found dead in woods in northern Manitoba

A northern Manitoba woman who went missing after going shopping in Thompson has been found dead in a forested area near her home reserve.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine cause of death

A northern Manitoba woman who went missing after going shopping in Thompson has been found dead in a forested area near her home reserve.

The 41-year-old woman had last been seen Sept. 27 after shopping in the northern city, RCMP said in a news release.

She was given a ride back toward Tataskweyak Cree Nation, about 120 kilometres away, and was dropped off about one kilometre outside the community to walk home through the woods.

Three days later, RCMP were informed she was missing. Searches were conducted in Thompson and the area where she had been let out of the vehicle.

On Oct. 1, officers and community members found the woman’s body in the wooded area surrounding Tataskweyak.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death and the investigation continues, RCMP said.

No additional information has been released.
